ACM's 50th Anniversary
In 2008-09, ACM celebrated its 50th Anniversary.
Sustaining cooperation among a group of colleges, especially through decades that have seen dramatic changes in higher education, is a noteworthy achievement. The anniversary was an opportunity to celebrate the enduring strength and the compelling basis for joint action that the core liberal arts mission of ACM colleges provides.
Several events highlighted the 50th Anniversary.
Student Symposium on Off-Campus Study
Students and faculty from ACM colleges participated in ACM's 50th Anniversary Off-Campus Study Student Symposium
Off-campus study has become an increasingly important part of undergraduate education, and the ACM colleges helped to pioneer this field through the ACM consortium. The 50th Anniversary celebration wrapped up with a showcase of off-campus study and the member colleges' collaboration through the years.
At the ACM Student Symposium on Off-Campus Study, students selected by the ACM colleges gave presentations about their off-campus study experiences and the impact of those experiences on their academic and personal growth.
The Symposium was held on April 17-18, 2009, at the ACM Chicago Programs office in downtown Chicago.

Traveling Exhibit Showcases Student Photos
ACM has operated domestic and international programs since the early 1960s. In recognition of that enduring legacy, the 50th Anniversary celebration included an Off-Campus Study Photo Contest, in which students at ACM colleges were invited to share the images and impressions they gathered from studying in locations around the world.
A traveling exhibit of the ten winning photos and a selection of honorable mention photos was hosted by ACM campuses in January through April, 2009, and was on display at the ACM 50th Anniversary Student Symposium on Off-Campus Study in Chicago on April 17-18, 2009.

ACM 50th Anniversary Invitational Soccer Classic
Soccer Classic Kicks Off 50th Anniversary
The celebration got off to a rousing start over Labor Day weekend in August 2008 with a soccer tournament featuring women’s and men’s teams from seven ACM colleges.
“Competition and Collaboration: 1958-2008” was the theme for the ACM 50th Anniversary Invitational Soccer Classic, a tribute to the consortium’s focus on academic collaboration and a reminder that the ten colleges that founded ACM were members of the same athletic conference. Read more
