Lake Forest College will host the third Associated Colleges of the Midwest (ACM) Soccer Showcase the weekend of September 9-11, 2016. The event will feature student athletes from four ACM member institutions: Coe College, Lake Forest College, Lawrence University, and Macalester College.

“The Soccer Showcase is a great example of how the ACM colleges collaborate with each other in many ways to support their core educational goals,” said ACM President Christopher Welna. “This is a special opportunity for student athletes to compete with their peers from other ACM colleges.”

In addition to the soccer tournament, student athletes will also participate in a Chicago excursion the evening of Saturday, September 10, giving them an opportunity to explore various parts of the city.

Athletic ties among ACM member institutions stretch back more than 90 years to 1921, when six colleges — Beloit College, Carleton College, Coe College, Cornell College, Knox College, and Lawrence University — formed the Midwest Collegiate Athletic Conference and held the new league’s first competition in track and field.

By 1958, the conference had grown to include 10 colleges, which joined together to create the Associated Colleges of the Midwest, thereby adding collaboration in academic areas to the connections they already had through sports. Today, the 14 ACM institutions compete on the NCAA Division III level as members of several different athletic conferences.

In recent years, the ACM Athletic Directors have taken the lead in fostering new athletic competitions among the ACM colleges through consortial soccer and volleyball tournaments. The last ACM Soccer Showcase was held in 2014 and co-hosted by Carleton College, Macalester College, and St. Olaf College.
