Seminars

Students in each area will typically choose one seminar course that focuses on particular issues in the city in their area of interest. The focus will be on combining a strong academic emphasis -- key readings, significant writing experiences -- with field trips and sessions with Chicago experts.

Below: Don Terry of the Chicago Tribune meets with a seminar.

Seminar topics change from term to term; listed below are some recent and potential topics.

  • Immigration and Labor
  • Chicago Divided: A Study of Racism
  • Faith and Social Justice
  • Issues of Women and Housing and Justice in Chicago
  • Media, Race, and Politics
  • The Arts in Chicago
  • Globalization and World Business
  • Chicago’s Theatre Tradition
  • The Growth of Chicago as a Commercial Capital
