Urban Studies

Internship possibilities

Through the internship, students are able to develop professional skills in a variety of non-profit and government organizations. Urban Studies interns have worked at over 350 sites in a wide range of fields, including:

  • Researchers and journalists for the Hyde Park Herald newspaper;
  • Teaching assistant at Telpochcalli and Woodlawn schools;
  • Legal and medical advocates at the Chicago Abused Women’s Coalition and Rape Victim Advocates;
  • Aide to Lt. Gov. Pat Quinn;
  • Medical researcher at Cook County Hospital;
  • Community organizers with the Jewish Council on Urban Affairs and the Logan Square Neighborhood Association;
  • Environmental researchers with Green Corps;
  • Social work assistant at Lutheran Social Services;
  • Legal assistant at the Northwestern University Bluhm Law Clinic and the Public Defenders Office.
