Women,
Teaching, and Authority
- Topic:
Women, Teaching, and Authority
- Friday,
April 18, 2008, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
- ACM
office in Chicago
Dr. Enora Brown, Associate Professor in the Department of Educational
Policy Studies and Research in the School of Education at DePaul
University, will facilitate the workshop. Brown
has been in the field of education for the past 35 years, as a teacher
in K-12, as a consultant and trainer for preschool teachers, as
a researcher and program developer in social service related programs,
and as a scholar and teacher in higher education.
The goal of the workshop will be to empower participants to return
to their campuses with an understanding of the effect of gender
on teaching, and to provide strategies for dealing with the issues
facing women in the college classroom.
The CSW anticipates that Dr. Brown will:
-
Provide a packet of readings for participants;
-
Provide a general overview of the state of the current research
on the topic of women and authority when teaching college students,
including classroom dynamics and one-on-one interactions, such
as advising or research supervision; and
-
Run a variety of interactive exercises/sessions to demonstrate
best practices.
One aim of the event will be to share resources produced for and
through the workshop with other colleagues on our campuses.
