7:15-9:00 Course Design Groups Meet--Discuss stories about teaching and learning, journal entries

Tuesday, June 13

8:00-8:50 Breakfast

9:00-10:30 Course design groups: Discuss questions from Pre-workshop Survey; Introduce "Re-visioning Course Design" handout in notebook.

10:30-10:45 Break

10:45-noon Course design groups: Finish discussion of "Re-visioning Course Design," Discuss Teaching Partners Retreat Project handout in notebook.

12 noon Lunch

1-2:30 Large Group Meeting

  • Introduction to Microteaching and Class Observation
  • The microteaching process/conducting class observations
  • Articulating our experience as a student/providing helpful feedback
  • A demonstration
  • First microteaching assignment: 10-minute segment, try something new.

2:30-3 Break/Journal writing time

3:00-4:00 Meet with microteaching groups

  • Discussion: Microteaching Handout in notebook
  • Difference between evaluating and observing, note-taking stragegies
  • Brainstorming/discussion of possible microteaching segments

6:00 Dinner

After dinner "Teachers in the Movies." Presentation/discussion of the way teachers are portrayed in contemporary movies.

Wednesday, June 14

9-10:30 Microteaching with Microteaching groups

10:30-10:45 Break

10:45-noon Microteaching with microteaching groups

12 noon-1:30 Lunch/journal writing time

1:30-3:00 Course Design Groups: journal questions and microteaching debriefing

  • Discuss journal entries, microteaching experience
  • Introduce the next microteaching assignment: The First Day (see handout in notebook)
  • Reminder to work on "retreat assignment."

6:00 Dinner

After dinner: Film: "Skin Deep."

Thursday, June 15

8:00-8:45 Breakfast

9:00-noon Microteaching Refreshments for break available after 10 a.m.

12 noon-1:30 Lunch and Journal

1:30-2:30 Microteaching Groups: Discuss/Debrief Microteaching

2:30-3:00 Break

3:00-4:00 Large Group Plenary Discussion

  • What have we learned about the student experience?
  • How does what we have learned influence our course design?
  • What are the implications for assessment and feedback for students? (time to complete Retreat Project!)

6:00 Dinner/Journal

7:30 Last Meeting with Course Design Group

  • Turn in Retreat Project
