FaCE Project - Phase I

Supported by grants from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, the Phase I of the Faculty Career Enhancement (FaCE) Project was designed to address the changing needs of faculty at ACM colleges at different stages of their careers.

The Project provided resources to enable faculty to:

  • Explore professional possibilities;
  • Create lively points of connection among the ACM campuses; and
  • Strengthen faculty leadership on the consortial campuses.

In 2008, the FaCE Project entered Phase II, with a variety of new initiatives.

Phase I of the FaCE Project, supported by a grant from the Andew W. Mellon Foundation, began in fall 2004 and continued through final workshops in spring 2008.

Conference on Racial and Ethnic Diversity

FaCE Phase I activities included:

Enhancing Scholarly Agendas: There were a number of modest grants available to invigorate faculty scholarship at important transition points in a career.

Visiting Scholars Program: Funds were available for faculty to visit other consortial campuses for a day or a more extended period to share pedagogical ideas and/or research interests.

Mentoring/Job Shadowing Program: Funds and information were available for faculty and faculty administrators to visit ACM colleagues in order to seek mentoring and/or advice for activities specifically focused on developing leadership skills.

Faculty Leadership: There were several workshops designed to enhance and examine faculty governance and leadership on ACM campuses.

Common Interest Workshops: There was a series of workshops that allowed faculty from different institutions with common interests to share new ideas, issues, approaches, and techniques for teaching and research.

Related Activities: Many of the ACM colleges had ongoing professional development activities that were open to ACM faculty on other campuses and the travel costs for those activities could be funded through FaCE.
