The
final inititiative of the ACM Information Literacy Project will
be a conference, “Introducing the New Generation of Students to
Academic Inquiry: Cross Campus Collaboration,” hosted by Macalester
College in St. Paul, MN on June 19-21.
The starting point for the conference is the assumption that the
so-called “Millenials,” the generation of students born in the mid-to-late
1980’s, have significantly different learning styles and knowledge
acquisition strategies than their predecessors.
Participants will examine this assumption and discuss how/if it
should be addressed. The conference especially seeks participants
who have developed classroom assignments and strategies to encourage
and engage these students. Ideally, we anticipate teams of faculty,
librarians, writing instructors and instructional technologists
who can give presentations on their work.
ACM
will cover the transportation, room and board for all participants.
The consortium is grateful to the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation for
its generous support of this project.
