Information Literacy Project

ACM’s Information Literacy Project has supported working meetings for campus teams of faculty, librarians and instructional technologists who are promoting information literacy skills among students at ACM colleges.

The project has been supported by a grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, which ACM received in December 2000.

The final inititiative of the project will be a conference, “Introducing the New Generation of Students to Academic Inquiry: Cross Campus Collaboration,” in June 2006. Scroll down for details.

• Overview of the project

Disciplinary and interdisciplinary workshops have provided opportunities for people from ACM colleges to exchange experiences with campus-based efforts and to share materials throughout the consortium.

Workshops and ongoing projects

• The final inititiative of the Project will be a conference, “Introducing the New Generation of Students to Academic Inquiry: Cross Campus Collaboration,” hosted by Macalester College in St. Paul, MN on June 19-21, 2006.
• Librarians met at Lake Forest College on November 5, 2004.
• The Information Literacy Project funded eight campus based projects in 2004.
• A workshop for psychologists was held at Beloit College on July 15-17, 2004.
• A workshop for literature faculty was held at Cornell College on June 16-18, 2004.
• Meeting/workshop for librarians at Cornell College in October 2003 -- The workshop included sessions on models of staffing for ACM libraries, the ethics of information, curriculum mapping and assessment, and collaborating with academic support services.
• Information literacy evaluation workshop in Chicago in October 2003 -- The meeting focused on approaches to assessing and evaluating the success of information literacy efforts. Information about these campus projects was presented at the meeting.
• Information Literacy Immersion Program at Coe College in July 2003.
• Workshops and activities for faculty in economics and business.
• Workshops and activities for faculty in the social sciences.
• Workshop and activities for psychology faculty.
• Conference on Information Literacy and Liberal Education in March 2001.
