Cultivating Mindfulness: A Reflection on My Time in Rural Costa Rica
An important part of my off-campus program was a three-week rural stay. Each student was assigned to live in a different part of the country and to work as their host families did for that period of time. I had the supreme fortune of living with a family of tuber farmers near the eastern coast. I have come to regard it as one of the most enriching experiences of my life. My presentation will follow the progression from my rough initial transition to the love and respect that I eventually gained for the land, what it produces, and the people it supports.
