Luther College faculty members Deborah Norland, professor of education, John Moeller, professor of political science and director of Ethics and Public Life, and Robert Shedinger, associate professor of religion, have been awarded Associated Colleges of the Midwest's Faculty Career Enhancement (FaCE) grants for collaborative research. Coe College has qualified for three Faculty Career Enhancement (FaCE) projects supported by the Associated Colleges of the Midwest (ACM). The three projects taking shape under the direction of Coe faculty range from a presentation focusing on electronic portfolios, to a conference discussing theatre and dance curriculums in the liberal arts college, to global citizenship on the island of Malta. As Internship Coordinator & Faculty at the ACM Urban Studies program, Dorothy Burge teaches seminars about criminal justice and racism. She has attended the trial of Jon Burge (the two are not related), a former Chicago police commander who is accused of lying about acts of alleged police torture and is charged with perjury. Since the 1990s, Ms. Burge has been involved in public-awareness campaigns about the Jon Burge case.
A promising young member of Monmouth College's fall 2010 entering class, who is a student at John Hancock High School in Chicago, is the subject of an article in the current edition of The Economist. Outreach to Chicago Public Schools is part of the Pipeline 3.0 Project, in which ACM colleges are working with the Network for College Success at the University of Chicago to increase the number of highly qualified Chicago Public Schools students who enroll and graduate from selective colleges and universities.
ACM programs in Costa Rica have a notable appeal to Ripon College students who are interested in studying abroad.
An exhibit of award-winning photos from the ACM Off-Campus Study Photo Contest is on display at Monmouth College's Hewes Library through February 20.

Dr. Chris Vaughan, director of the ACM Costa Rica program, visited St. Olaf College to share his experiences in Costa Rica and give students more information about the program. Vaughan has followed his passions for conservation ever since embarking on the same ACM program while a student at Grinnell College.
