Experiences
that add new dimensions
ACM offers programs at locations in the U.S. and eight other countries.
You can study in a wide range of disciplines -- languages, history,
theatre, biology, economics and anthropology, to name a few.
On
ACM international programs, you'll be immersed in the language and
culture of the host country, in most cases living with a local family
and participating in community life. You'll have the chance to travel
and explore in cities and the countryside -- Ngorongoro Crater in
Tanzania, the tropical rain forests and mountains of Costa Rica,
the historic center of Florence, Italy.
Whether overseas or in the U.S., on an ACM program you'll hear from
experts on a variety of topics and use local resources such as museums,
galleries, specialized libraries and archives. Independent research
is a key component of several ACM programs, and three programs offer
semester-long internships. On the Oak Ridge and Newberry Library
programs, you can also participate in colloquia with resident and
visiting scholars.

More
than 40 years of quality in off-campus study
The Associated Colleges of the Midwest first offered off-campus
study programs more than 40 years ago in Costa Rica and Chicago.
Through the years, ACM has steadily added programs, most recently
in Botswana. The academic quality of ACM programs is ensured by
the member colleges. Faculty from the campuses join specialist staff
at the program sites to teach classes and supervise independent
research projects. If you're a student at an ACM college, it's easy
to apply and register. You remain enrolled at your home college
and pay tuition and program fees there. In most cases, you'll remain
eligible for any financial aid you're receiving. Several of the
programs, as noted in the descriptions elsewhere in this web site,
are recognized by the Great Lakes Colleges Association, Inc. (GLCA).

Application
process
If
you're a student at an ACM college...
- Look
through this Web site!
- Interested?
Pick up brochures and applications for specific programs at the
off-campus studies office on your campus.
- Talk
to the program advisor on your campus (they're listed in the program
descriptions). The advisor can answer questions such as: Are there
other students you can talk to who have been on the program? What
courses will be offered? What kinds of independent study topics
are available? How will credits from the program fit in with your
major and graduation requirements? What's the application deadline
on your campus?
- Stop
by the financial aid office and find out about remaining eligible
for financial aid.
- Fill
out the application and return it to the program advisor by the
campus application deadline date.
-
If you're accepted, pay a non-refundable $400 deposit to secure
your place. The deposit will be applied to your program fee.
If
you're a student at a non-ACM college, contact the ACM office
in Chicago for information.
