  • Tanzania, Fall 2011

Hometown: Colorado Springs, CO

Major/minors: Anthropology major, African Studies & Art History minors

Campus activities, involvement, or other interests: Junior Class Committee, Saturday of Service (volunteer program), Empty Bowls coordinator (annual event to raise money for the school's soup kitchen)

Why I chose to do this program: I am passionate about human evolution and origins and have always wanted to travel to Africa.  Tanzania is host to some of the most influential sites for the discipline of biological anthropology and archaeology and was thus a natural fit for my academic interests.  Personally, I wanted to be challenged in a way that I had never been before.  Living and learning in a different culture has not only made me appreciate my life in the United States, but has also helped me to better understand the lives of others.

What I am most excited about: Visiting Laetoli and Olduvai Gorge.
