  • St. Olaf College
  • Costa Rica, Spring 2012

Hometown: Madison, WI

Majors: Biology and Environmental Studies

Campus activities, involvement or other interests: On campus, I am involved in the Environmental Coalition, and I live in the "Wendell Berry House," which focuses on building a community around local and sustainable food.  My interests outside of school include running, biking, camping, canoeing, hiking – anything outside!  I also love to cook and bake.

Why I chose this program: I chose this program because it combined the unique academic experience of an individual research project with an intensive cultural immersion through home-stays.  I think that both of those aspects will make this program a valuable experience that I couldn't achieve on campus.

What I'm most excited about: So many things!  I can't wait to meet my host family and to cook with my host mom.  I'm excited to meet the other students in the program and explore the beautiful country of Costa Rica.  I'm also looking forward to being able to devote myself fully to a research project for several months.
