  • Knox College
  • Botswana, Spring 2010

Hometown: Bushnell, IL

Majors & minors: Anthropology and Sociology major, Gender and Women Studies minor

Campus activities, involvement, or other interests: I love people and places and enjoy participating in various school activities.  I am a member of Students Against Sexism in Society, Co-secretary of Chinese Club, & have been involved with the Knox College Carl Sandburg Community Band.

Why I chose the Botswana program: I was pleased with the ability to do an independent study project of my choice.  There is a certain amount of freedom in pursuing something that I am truly interested in as apposed to something choosing from a list of pre-prepared classes/topics.  I have time to meet people and to travel to various destinations within the country, which allows me to experience not just the college culture, but the cultures of the villages and people around me.  Also, I liked the idea that I would be living among people in my age group from all over Botswana.

What I'm most excited about: I am very excited about all the wonderful, new people that I have met so far.  I am also excited to be seeing so many new places and gaining new perspectives.

Anything else? Botswana is amazing and I have totally and completely fallen in love!
