- Costa Rica Field Research, Spring 2009

Hometown: Fountain, CO
Major: Sociology and Anthropology Major, Economics Minor, and Islamic World Studies Minor
Campus activities and interests: Student Anthropological Society (President), Black Student Union, Tunnels of Oppression (Tri-Chair), I take voice lessons as well as participate in music theater performances. I have two jobs; one as the music department student assistant, as well as a job at the non-profit Rocky Mountain Community Land Trust. I was a first year experience student mentor and work in the Anthropology department with my advisor on her research. I love archaeology and have participated in multiple excavations. My newest interest is film and I am just starting to explore this.
Why I chose to do the spring ACM Costa Rica program: I love the idea of independent field research and am interested in careers related to this type of work. The program offers such wonderful experiences that will expose me to a new part of the world, allow me to conduct important and relevant research, and learn more about myself outside of my comfort zone. I have always wanted to travel to Costa Rica and am very interested in its unique form of eco-tourism and it's ancient Pre-Colombian cultures.
What I'm most excited about: The field research and the opportunity to explore and learn on my own.
What I'm most nervous about: Being away from home for so long.
