  • Carleton College
  • Brazil, Fall 2010

Hometown: Bozeman, MT

Major & minor: Latin American Studies major, Political Economy minor

Activities & interests: At school, my main activities include being a director of the student-run dance company, a dorm RA and a faculty research assistant. While at home, I enjoy riding horses, camping and biking.

Why I chose to do this program: This program was recommended to me by a professor at Carleton and I was intrigued by its structure; namely, its similarity to a direct-enroll program, but one that handled the logistics of finding housing, providing preliminary Portuguese instruction, and offering a support system while abroad. I choose Brazil specifically because I was anxious to return to South America and the opportunity to learn Portuguese represented both a personal and academic draw.

What I'm most excited about: I really enjoy learning new languages, and my exposure to Portuguese thus far has been a fun and rewarding experience. I also can't wait to personally experience a country and culture that constitutes such an important part of my field of study. I also think it will just be a lot of fun.
