Major: Anthropology and Spanish

Why I chose to do the spring ACM Costa Rica program: I chose this program for a number of reasons.  Since my majors are Spanish and Anthropology I wanted a program where I could incorporate these two fields.  Because the ACM Costa Rica Field Research program offered me a chance to design my own project, I decided that independent research would be the best choice for my junior year.

What I'm most excited about: I am really excited to begin work in the field.  I will be interviewing farmers in the Turrialba region to try and understand the entirety of technology use with respect to banana farms. I'll be living in the mountains of Turrialba surrounded by banana and coffee fields- I absolutely love the area, the sun and the greenery.  Being so close to vast forest, mountains, and tributaries is what I am most anticipating.  It serves to be very peaceful.

What I'm most nervous about: I suppose I am nervous just about every day!  Speaking Spanish is both a challenge and a great opportunity to express myself to new minds in different ways.  What I hope is to be able to understand the people I interview so I can conclude my stay here in Costa Rica with a great research project.
Overall, this is the most exciting opportunity of my life, and it's sometimes surreal to be living it!
