Rachel Wieme
- St. Olaf College
- Costa Rica, Spring 2011

Hometown: Sartell, MN
Majors: Biology and Spanish
Campus activities, involvement, or other interests: I play on the St. Olaf Women's Golf team; I also play intramural basketball. Additionally, I am a member of the Biology Club and a "Discussions in Ecology" discussion group. I also volunteer often at Prairie's Edge (Rice County) Humane Society.
Why I chose to do this program: I chose this program because it gives me the perfect opportunity to integrate my two majors (my interests): Biology and Spanish. I have heard nothing but great things about Costa Rica in the past: both regarding the cultural aspect (friendly people, Pura Vida, etc) and the biological aspect (amazing biodiversity & abundance of life and different ecosystems). In addition to that, the opportunity to conduct an independent research project will be an invaluable experience that will hopefully help form and be an asset to my future plans.
What I'm most excited about: I'm most excited about taking advantage of all that Costa Rica has to offer me, such as the amazing atmosphere in which to study biology (particularly ecology), as well as living with a host family and meeting new people in order to learn about their lives, their culture, and especially improving my Spanish!
