Why I chose to do the ACM Tanzania program:  I always knew I was going to study abroad the fall of my Junior year in college and this program was perfect for me.  I am creating an individual major that revolves around Sustainable Development in both the cultural and environmental spheres.  This program's offer of a combination of Anthropology and Ecology was right up my alley as was the opportunity to do some independent research.  It was important to me that I do not end up on a 'touristy' abroad trip.  Finally, I have always been fascinated by the idea of Africa and am very excited to be able to immerse myself in a completely different culture and language.

What I'm most excited about: Learning Swahili!  - And climbing Mt Kilimanjaro after the program ends. And seeing all the different animals at the field station.  Nothing beats living a safari! ;)

What I'm most nervous about: Trying to navigate Dar in those first few weeks that I don't know the language or the culture.

Anything else?  Besides my "official" interests in ecology and sociology/anthropology, I am also an artist and am huge into photography.  I brought a Canon 20D digital SLR along on the trip and plan to be taking photos throughout the trip.  Some posts will likely link to photos or talk about the African art surrounding me.
