Opportunities for ACM Faculty

ACM provides a variety of opportunities for faculty at ACM colleges to extend their expertise and gain new perspectives.

Grant-funded programs

  • ACM-Mellon Seminars in Advanced Interdisciplinary Learning (SAIL) - A series of five annual Seminars provide opportunities for faculty from ACM colleges to explore new topics and disciplines in specific contexts, and encourage them to incorporate what they learn into advanced-level coursework that takes a liberal arts, rather than disciplinary approach.
  • Faculty Career Enhancement (FaCE) Project - FaCE, which has provided funding for collaborative research and workshops involving ACM faculty, will wrap up in 2013 as the last projects are completed. See the ACM FaCE Project website hosted by SERC for information and resource materials from FaCE-sponsored collaborations.

Positions on ACM off-campus study programs

Faculty at ACM colleges can apply for appointments as Program Directors and Visiting Faculty on ACM programs in Africa, Asia, Europe and the U.S.

Faculty Site Visits Program

Each semester, ACM faculty may apply to participate in a faculty site visit to a consortial off-campus program site to learn about the program, meet on-site faculty and staff, and make professional contacts. See the Faculty Site Visits webpage for information about applying to participate in a faculty site visit.

Conferences and workshops

ACM sponsors a variety of conference and workshops for faculty and staff each year. Many are in connection with grant-funded programs (see above), while others are funded by ACM. In addition, events sponsored by individual colleges are sometimes open to faculty from throughout the ACM. See the ACM calendar for upcoming events.

ACM-University of Chicago Faculty Development Grants

The University of Chicago has generously created an ACM Faculty Development Grant Program to promote interaction between ACM faculty and the University. The five-year program provides grants to support faculty travel and costs associated with brief residencies for research, participation in workshops or seminars, and other activities at the University. See the Call for Proposals for more information.

Faculty travel grants

Grants are available for travel to Japan, the Newberry Library (Chicago), and the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (TN).

Opportunities sponsored by ACM colleges

As available, information will be posted about opportunities sponsored by individual colleges and open to participants from ACM colleges.
