About the FaCE Program

2016 FaCE Conference

With support from a $2 million grant from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, the Faculty Career Enhancement Program (FaCE) aims to foster a culture of innovation among ACM faculty in fulfilling their central educational role.

During the span of the funding from 2014-2020, FaCE is underwriting collaborative, innovative, and sustainable projects with a compelling potential to address challenges and opportunities that liberal arts colleges and their faculty face and to enhance the distinctive liberal arts mission of ACM colleges.

Goals of the FaCE Program

FaCE broadly aims to fund joint research projects, teaching and learning collaborations, collaboratively organized events, and other cooperative initiatives that:

  • Engage faculty either from multiple ACM member colleges or from different departments within a single college;
  • Identify and test new approaches that have the potential to address current challenges or opportunities faced by liberal arts colleges and their faculty; and
  • Show plans to become sustainable on the campuses involved and demonstrate the potential to be replicable on other campuses through effective dissemination strategies.

FaCE grants for faculty projects

In fall and spring funding cycles each academic year, faculty and staff at ACM colleges can apply for FaCE grants through a two-step process. Applicants submit a brief pre-proposal outlining an initial idea of a project. The FaCE Steering Committee invites the authors of selected pre-proposals to submit full proposals, from which the grant recipients are selected.

FaCE conferences

The FaCE program sponsors a yearly conference bringing together faculty and staff to discuss ideas for collaborative faculty development projects that fit into the broad parameters of FaCE, while also highlighting opportunities for projects related to an annual theme identified by the program.
