Mexico Summer Program: Service Learning & Language Immersion

Mexico City, Mexico

Living arrangements

For the duration of the program in Mexico City, students will live with Mexican host families.  This homestay experience greatly enhances cultural immersion, gives students an opportunity to be using their Spanish outside the classroom, and creates a local connection throughout the program.  Host families will provide students with two meals per day, which is covered by the cost of the program.  Students will typically be placed in pairs within host families.

Most homes are located within 15-20 minutes walking distance of the Universidad La Salle campus, in the trendy, bohemian neighborhood of La Condesa.  The "Greenwich Village" of Mexico City, La Condesa contains many restaurants, cafes, bookstores, museums, clubs, shops, and parks, and is just a 20-minute walk (or 10-minute taxi ride) from the historic downtown center of Mexico City.  Los Pinos, the Mexican president's residence, is located nearby, as is Chapultepec Park and the touristic Zona Rosa.

Grace Robia My experience in Mexico was incredible and I’ve been missing it since I stepped foot on the airplane back to the U.S. Watching the World Cup games with 35-50 soccer-obsessed Mexicans was of the most unforgettable things I’ve ever done. All of the Mexicans that I met were enthusiastic, fun-loving, open, and kind. I’d take the first chance that arose and fly right back to Mexico City. ¡Viva México!
