India Summer Program: Service Learning & Cultural Immersion

Pune, India

Cost

Campus policies regarding payment for summer programs are often different than for programs taking place during the academic year.  In most cases, financial aid will not apply, and students will pay educational and program costs directly to ACM, instead of through the campus.

As a result, students should check with their Off-Campus Study Office and their Financial Aid Office to confirm their colleges's policies regarding payment for summer programs, if additional campus fees may apply, and if financial aid may be used toward the cost of their program.

Note: Upon acceptance to the program, students will be required to pay a $400 deposit, which will be applied toward the program fee.  Since this is a summer program, in most cases, financial aid or funds from the home college will not be used, and the student will pay ACM the fee directly.  However students should consult their career center, service learning center, civic engagement center, or off-campus study office to verify whether the college makes funds available for summer programs.

Students wishing to pursue internship credit at their home college should consult with an academic advisor or the appropriate official from their home campus, prior to commencing the program.  Some colleges may have specific payment requirements in order to receive credit for summer coursework taken at other institutions.  They should also alert ACM, so staff can help assure that the student completes any requirements needed to qualify for credit.

Scholarship Information

While ACM does not offer any financial assistance for this program, we encourage students to pursue outside scholarships and grants. A number of the ACM colleges offer scholarships for service learning/internship programs - please go to the ACM colleges scholarship page for more details.  Some of the scholarship deadlines are earlier than the application deadline, so please plan ahead!

A list of additional outside scholarship opportunities can be found at: www.acm.edu/scholarships.

Dan Read The ACM Summer Program in India was undoubtedly the best summer I have ever had. The experiences I had with the Korku people in Melghat were insightful, fun, and challenging all at the same time. Despite their impoverished living conditions, the Korkus are some of the nicest, most fun people I have ever met. Not only was I able to work with the adults, I also played frisbee and soccer with the children every evening. I am still in touch with many of the people in Melghat, and plan to return several times in the future.
