Marco Castro Rodriguez

Marco Castro Rodríguez has worked with international students and young volunteers in Costa Rica and Central America since 2000 on projects that represent a wide range of initiatives in education, youth and women empowerment, the environment and eco-tourism, and rural infrastructure.

He held positions at Youth Challenge International – Costa Rica Office as Executive Director; at the University for Peace as Student Service Coordinator, and as coordinator for the Latin American Economic Empowerment Program in partnership with the University of Connecticut and other universities in Latin America, and for the Centre for Executive Education with San Jose State University.

Marco has been part of different global initiatives, such us:

  • Global Citizenship and Social Action for the International Public Engagement Program in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada (2002)
  • National Delegate for the World Youth Forum in Barcelona (2006)
  • Global Youth Alliance Summits: Canada, Australia, Costa Rica & Guyana (2002-2008)
  • Ford Motor Company International Fellowship in New York (2007)
  • Central American Integration Fund regional meeting, sponsored by the European Union, Guatemala-Nicaragua (2009)
  • First International Congress: Universities and Social Entrepreneurship, Universidad de Costa Rica (2013)

He holds a master's degree in Responsible Management & Sustainable Economic Development from the United Nations mandated University for Peace; a Postgraduate Diploma in Management & Planning on International Development Interventions from Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia, Madrid-Spain; International Diploma in Education for Sustainable Development granted by UNESCO, Earth Charter International and University for Peace (2016); a B.A. in Psychology from Universidad de Costa Rica; and in 1995-97 he was a Fulbright Campus grantee at University of Louisville, EEUU.
