London, England & Florence, Italy

Affiliated scholar biography - Brian Baugh

Brian Baugh is a multidisciplinary artist. While he holds degrees in painting, his artworks take the form of sculptures, ceramics works, photographs, drawings, prints, and musical instruments. However, the artists of the Florentine Renaissance have long influenced Brian’s artwork. He is currently working on a series of paintings and sculptures created from imagination and inspired by the faces and bodies in Renaissance art. Brian is interested in the influence of Renaissance art throughout many periods of art history. Brian’s course in Florence will focus on how Victorian artists traveled to Florence, studied the works of the Renaissance artists, and then were influenced by that experience.

Brian, Associate Professor of Art at Monmouth College, is a native of North Alabama and attended the University of Montevallo where he earned a Bachelor of Fines Arts degree with concentrations in Painting and Printmaking. He earned a Master of Fine Arts degree at the University of Florida in Painting. At Monmouth College he teaches a variety of courses including: Design, Drawing, Painting, Photography, Graphic Design, Contemporary Art, Global Perspectives, and he is currently co-teaching a course on Victorian Art and Culture.

Holly Doyle Studying abroad with the ACM London & Florence Program has completely given me a new perspective on my life. Whether I was eating gelato while strolling under the Duomo, pushing my way on a crowded regional train to Naples, enjoying birthday pizza on the Grand Canal of Venice, crossing Abbey Road, or making a phone call from a London telephone booth, I was experiencing life like I had never done in the past. The memories and experiences I had with my ACM friends are irreplaceable and I began to realize the scope and scale, not only of the world, but also of the opportunities available for me. My time abroad was completely bittersweet and will be five months that will always impact my future, and which I will never forget.
