Japan Study

Tokyo, Japan

Cost

Program Fee

For students from ACM colleges, the 2013-14 program fee is as follows:

  • Fall Semester: $24,000
  • Fall Semester with Cultural Practicum: $27,750
  • Spring Semester + Intensive Language: $27,750
  • Full Academic Year: $44,000

The program fees cover the cost of the orientation session, room, partial board (breakfast and dinner with the host family), commuting expenses in Tokyo, Waseda University tuition, the cultural practicum, and administrative costs.  In addition to the above costs, ACM students will also be billed approximately $10/week for HTH health insurance.  A deposit of $500 is due upon acceptance and should be paid to the ACM office (for students from ACM colleges) or the Japan Study Office (for students from all other colleges). This deposit is applied to the program fee.

Note: The program fee for ACM students includes an additional fee of approximately $10/week for ACM-mandated travel health insurance coverage.

Students are responsible for roundtrip airfare, lunches, books, Japanese national health insurance, and personal expenses. Recent participants have budgeted $400-$500 each month for these expenses. Many students work part-time in Tokyo - teaching English or working in local shops - to offset such expenses. After departure from the United States, no part of the program fee expended on a student's behalf is refundable.

Laura Woodland On the Japan Study program, I learned to become extremely independent. Being in a foreign country, where you're basically on your own, forces you to grow up quickly. I was no longer able to depend on my mother or father to get me out of binds, and having this self-sufficient trait is something that would have taken a lot longer for me to acquire had I not participated in Japan Study. Not to mention, my Japanese is amazing now.
