ACM Tropical Field Research in Costa Rica

Research in the humanities

José León Sánchez, an internationally recognized Costa Rican author, talks with students.

Projects might include the study of feminist poets or an analysis of local craft traditions. Music students could study the activities of the many music schools or get involved with some of the opera performances in San José. Art students could work with local artists or with a museum or gallery.

Some recent topics include:

  • The flute and modernization in Costa Rican music
  • Oral histories of Miskito Indian refugees
  • Poetry by Costa Rican women

The photo album includes pictures of students at their research sites.
