The impact of consortial faculty development activities goes far beyond the fiscal advantage of stretching tight budgets, according to John Ottenhoff. Collaborations among faculty on different ACM campuses serve to foster connections with a rich array of colleagues within and across disciplines, and can also provide welcome relief from the "we've always done it this way here" phenomenon.

Call for Pre-Proposals launches new SAIL faculty seminars
Faculty will travel, examine new topics with peers across disciplines, and generate innovative curricular ideas on the ACM-Mellon Seminars in Advanced Interdisciplinary Learning (SAIL). The Call for Pre-Proposals seeks faculty to shape the topic and leadership of the first seminar. Deadline: June 10. Read about it
Knox College senior Adam Sirgany named winner of Nick Adams Contest
Novelist Binnie Kirshenbaum selected the winning and honorable mention stories in ACM’s annual short story contest for students. Read about it, plus stories from the contest!
Virginia Henry at the ACM Student Symposium on Off-Campus Study
Students honored for research projects
Newberry Seminar participant Virginia Henry received the first annual Award for Outstanding Research on an ACM Program, and two other students were named as finalists for projects in Costa Rica and Tanzania. Read about it
Symposium highlights transformative effects of off-campus study
The third annual Student Symposium on Off-Campus Study brought together students, faculty, and staff from ACM colleges to share challenges encountered and insights gained around the world. See videos of the students' presentations
Opportunities for Faculty
The final year of the ACM Faculty Career Enhancement (FaCE) Project will include workshops for faculty, three more rounds of Presentation Grants, and a concluding FaCE conference on October 28-30 at Colorado College.
- FaCE will award more Presentation Grants to enable faculty to present the results of FaCE-funded projects at national conferences. Deadlines for proposals: June 1, August 1, and October 1.
- Eight grants for a total of $65,435 were awarded to ACM faculty in the spring 2011 cycle of FaCE.

Searches extended for Affiliated Scholars with Florence programs and for the Visiting Program Director in Tanzania
ACM seeks faculty to serve as Affiliated Scholars with consortial programs in Florence during the 2012-13 academic year and as the Visiting Program Director in Tanzania in fall 2012. Deadline: August 1, 2011. See the position announcements for more information.
Support available for ACM colleagues to meet
Funding up to $750 is available to help ACM faculty or administrative leaders caucus at a professional conference, on a campus, or at the ACM office in Chicago. For more information or to apply, contact Betsy Hutula at ACM.
On the Off-Campus Study Programs
