Blended Learning in a Liberal Arts College Setting

Kimberly Cassidy, President, Bryn Mawr College

Kimberly Cassidy was named President of Bryn Mawr College this year following two decades as a faculty member and then Provost of the college. She has led a program, funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, piloting the use of blended learning (a combination of computer-based and classroom learning) in a liberal arts setting. Through this program, Bryn Mawr faculty have developed more than 20 courses across the curriculum that use the blended approach and have shared their findings and grant-funded resources with 39 other liberal arts colleges nationally.

The Science of Learning, Technology, and Transformation in Higher Education

Candace Thille, Assistant Professor and Senior Research Fellow, Office of the Vice Provost for Online Learning, Stanford University, and Director of the Open Learning Initiative at Carnegie Mellon University

Candace Thille has served as Director of the Open Learning Initiative since the program began in 2002. Her focus in research and development is applying results from the learning sciences to the design, implementation, and evaluation of open web-based learning environments.
