Academic Assistant in Costa Rica

ACM seeks an Academic Assistant for the fall 2018 Costa Rica program. The Academic Assistant works only during the San José component of the program. Students receive a stipend of $500 for working a total of 30-35 hours throughout the semester. Participation in the fall 2018 Costa Rica program is required for this position.

The Academic Assistant will work closely with Marco Castro Rodriguez, the Academic Coordinator. Marlee Stein, ACM Off-Campus Study Program Coordinator, supervises the assistant remotely from the ACM office.

Responsibilities include:

  • Cataloging books, articles, films, CDs, and DVDs in the program database or an online catalogue hosted by LibraryThing.
  • Maintaining the library by shelf-reading, keeping books in order, and helping students check books in and out.
  • Cataloging and organizing research papers written by former ACM students into a database.
  • Updating and organizing a Tico Scholarship database.
  • Creating a Google Site (or similar platform) for the ACM Costa Rica program.

Other responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Assisting fellow students in finding books and research materials.
  • Assisting Resident Director, Program Coordinator, and faculty as needed.
  • Curating digital photo collections/selections at the request of professors.

Required skills:

  • Familiarity with common cataloguing systems (LC, Dewey Decimal, etc.)
  • Good time management skills, flexibility, and consistency.
