Literature

Cohn, Teresa, "La poesía de dos diferentes generaciones turrialbeñas." Adv. Eduardo Estevanovich. Colorado College. 1995. 108pp.

It is a comparative analysis of the thematic content of twelve poets' work. I grouped the poets into two different generations: the "post war" generation and the generation of the "new poetry". Through my analysis I found that the postwar poets generally focus on themes of social problems, while those of the new poetry write of internal existential conflict. In addition I determined that good relations are nonexistent between the men and women of the new generation. More conflict exists between the men. Finally, I found that the only circle of poets in Turrialba was that of the postwar generation.

McGuinness, Alexander Wells, "La Poesía Femenina de Guanacaste." Adv. Eduardo Estevanovich. St. Olaf. 1991. 63pp.

The present study investigates women's poetry in Guanacaste. During March and April of 1991, I interviewed six poets of El Centro Literario de Guanacaste, and analyzed selections from each of their written works for thematic content. From this analysis, I derived several conclusions which I believe to be important and relevant to the poetry of the region. These include: 1. The poets utilize a variety of themes but all include elements typical of Guanacaste: the physical environment (flora, fauna, and geography), as well as the historical, political, economic and social context. 2. El Centro Literario de Guanacaste significantly influences the creative expression of its members.

Randel, Eric, “Comparación y análisis de dos grupos de poetas de San Ramón, Costa Rica.” Adv. Eduardo Estevanovich. Beloit. 2000. 75pp.

The following study took place in San Ramón, cantón of the province Alajuela in Costa Rica. It is a comparative analysis of the thematic content of twelve poets’ work. I divided the poets into two different groups: the Group of the Past and the Current Group. Through my analysis, I found that the poets of the first group exalted the rural aspects, while the second group examined their topics from a critical perspective. In addition, I determined that both groups wrote poems about personal and universal topics i.e., love, fear, and loneliness, but the treatment of these ideas by each group is different.

Twohy, Eileen, "The Production of Historical Children´s Books in the Santa Elena-Monteverde Region." Adv. Ilse Leitinger. Grinnell. 2003.

The ultimate goal of this project is to write and illustrate a bilingual children's picture book designed for the children of the Santa Elena-Monteverde region. The book will represent the history of the children's grandmothers, depicting topics such as the differences between the lives of women then versus now, the struggles of individual women of the region, and the changing nature of various local customs and cultural activities.
